Nashville Area Habitat for Humanity plays an active role in the development and construction of affordable housing units. It was a little-known movement until 1984, when President Jimmy Carter first got involved, raising public awareness of the tremendous need for decent, affordable homes for the working poor.
Since that time, churches, community groups and others joined to successfully tackle a significant social problem across the country and around the world: affordable, safe and decent housing for all.
As early as 1985, leaders in Nashville have been participating in this extraordinary ministry. In 2007, Nashville Area Habitat purchased and started development on their second Habitat community: Timberwood - located in Northwest Davidson County. Construction began in 2008, and the project's 112-home community is expected to be finished by 2011.
